Get Out

Poster of Get Out

Get Out, by director Jordan Peele was also the kind of film that gives the audience a lesson which is both insightful and thought-provoking. It tells the story of a young couple who have reached the stage in their relationship in which the young woman wants to introduce her boyfriend to her parents. She is white and her boyfriend is black. The boyfriend feels a strange kind of awkwardness from the parents, perhaps because it is an interracial relationship but it ultimately reveals an intent which is far more sinister. I believe the director created a new genre of thriller film. I loved this film because nothing was wasted. The dialogue was realistic and I loved the systematic unraveling of tension in the film. All of this is brilliantly blended with the subtext of racism. It made the audience uncomfortable at times, but it also made them think long after the film had ended.
